Importance of Cordyceps Mushroom

As a high demand of Cordyceps Mushroom, many companies show great importance toward it. It is a special type of mushroom which is more expensive than other mushrooms. The spore of this mushroom fallen on the body of the caterpillar. Then this parasite mushroom grows on the host body. There are about 400 species are available all over the world and available in the hilly region of China. Kira-Jari is another name of the cordyceps in India. The great importance of cordyceps for the curing of so many diseases.

The lifecycle of this Mushroom

The lifecycle of this mushroom-based on the insect body. When the insects are moving around the mature mushroom the spores attached to the insect’s body and start the whole formation. The spores start germination. Due to this, a hyoha formed which grow inside the insects. Then mycelium formed. This takes supplement from the insect’s body. After fully consumed the insect’s body a blade-like structure formed on the head of the insect. This is the fruity body of the mushroom. Then the mushroom is able to release spores again.

Types of Cordyceps Mushroom

There are many types of species available all over the world. But only 2 types of this mushroom are able to consume for humans. These are Cordyceps Sinensis and Cordyceps Militaris.

Cordyceps Cultivation Methods

There are various types of strains present. For the commercial cultivation, RUP and Shanghai is commonly taken for better yield.

  • Media preparation

A good media uses for cultivation. The William Padilla Brown recommended a media for cordyceps mushroom cultivation. This media consist of

  • 1-gallon water
  • 1/2 cup starch
  • 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoon azomite
  • 5 scoops baby food

First, select a jar of about 72 pieces. Then 2 tablespoon rice pun on the jar. Then, take all other required ingredients in a mixing bowl and dissolve it well.  After properly dissolved, a liquid mixture was prepared. Then, pour ¼ cup of the prepared mixture into each Mason jar. Then close the jar with a polyfill filter. Finally, sterilize the jar by autoclave. Finally, the media is ready for the cultivation of Cordyceps Mushroom.

 

  • Inoculation

The spawn of this mushroom is not available to purchase through the internet or spawn provider. To inoculate the spawn of these mushroom Petri plates are used which containing wedges. The media containing jars are cool overnight. Then, place them in front of a flow hood in a positive pressure lab. This filter helps to contaminate the sterilized media from all airborne. Then the material of the Petri plate cut into 8 small pieces. Place each piece on the media containing jar. After the place, the wedges closed the jar well and moved it into the incubation room for the next procedure.

  • Incubation

The rate of incubation of this mushroom is fast and straight forward. The mycelium of this mushroom is smoothly growing in a dark place. Maintain the temperature should be 55-57º F. For commercial purposes, the incubation time decreases for increasing the supply. Average 21 days taken for all strains of this mushroom to fully colonized.

  • Pinning and fruiting

After this incubation process, the fruiting is started. Light and temperature play a major role. For the proper fruiting of this mushroom requires 16 hours to 18 hours light cycle. This mushroom is phototropic in nature so it grows towards the light. For commercial purposes the normal fluorescent light used. The temperature should not be above 80ºF. if it increases the fruity body became fry. Close the jars so the humidity and oxygen level should not maintain.

  • Harvested method

After 4 to 6 weeks later the fruiting process is completed. To get a good quality mushroom fruiting cycle is long required. The mushroom can grow to the top of the jar. After reaching the top of the jar the harvested process is started. The grain medium and fruity bodies both are harvested and utilized.  Medicinal mushroom companies use the grain medium. The fresh fruiting bodies are used for culinary purposes. It can be used for delicious broths. It can be extracted with hot water and alcohol.

The yield of this mushroom is different for different strains. The Shanghai strains produce about 12 grams per jar.

Cordyceps mushrooms have several benefits in the human body.

It has several medicinal uses in human life. Besides its advantages, there are several side effects shows by this mushroom. Before taking cordyceps supplements person should consult a doctor. Due to its high potential activity, it shows a harmful effect on the body.

There is a caution for pregnant or breastfeeding women. The cordyceps supplements are not applicable to this type of woman. It effects on its child.

All though it is an immune modulator it shows complication for that patient who suffers from autoimmune disease.
